Did I hear correctly?
Did Michael Gove really suggest that cookery should be taught in schools?

WOW!

What a novel idea.

Now I'm not suggesting that they reproduce the cookery lessons I had which
were mainly USELESS but a course which taught young people how to make a
meal from the majority of the basic foods available and the elements of a
good diet from the POV of a healthy body would be good IMO. It would equip
them to cater for themselves and, perhaps more important, to assess the
food fashions they encountered.

Cheers

Hardly novel. It's been up and running in English primary schools as
part of the obligatory National Curriculum since the Education Reform
Act in 1988. Plus, 85% of secondary schools implement it voluntarily at
Key Stage 3.

Gove is the equivalent of Fred Flintstone turning up at Le Mans to
launch his new invention, The Wheel.

Or the Food Fascists?
We once had the misfortune to pass a College where they had cookery
lessons. The all came out with plastic bags and boxes of their creations
and different classes compared their efforts with each other.
On boarding the bus it was evident that the bags contained vegetables
for use in an on board battle.
