Aunt Bessie Home style Mashed Potato

I was suprised to see this in the frozen food section of my local
Tesco. Checked the ingredients, and it looks like real potato, butter,
milk and salt and pepper - nothing artificial on the list like
maltrodextrin that you get with Smash. Best bit is that it takes about
2.5mins in the microwave.

Has anyone tried it? I love mash potato (especially with faggots,
liver with onion, sausages etc.), and what would make it better is if
I didn't have to peel and boil potatos.

Good luck!

Who on earth would want to buy mashed potatoes from any supermarket at the
prices they charge?

Somebody who doesn't want to peel, boil and squash potatoes, presumably.

Do you drive? More expensive than walking, isn't it?

I haven't tried the mash but I'm a fan of Aunt Bessie's Roast pots and the
Yorkshire puds (the ones you cook from batter- pre frozen). Yes I know I'm
lazy sometimes. I can do the real stuff too...

I even do Smash sometimes (horror) but I'm sure that AB's mash is better.

Its true. I don't think of it as masshed potato at all! Just a comfort food.
Couldn't find AB's mash in local supermarket. Have you tried it yet?

Have you tried peeling potatoes, putting them in a saucepan, boiling them
for about 20 minutes, draining them, adding some butter and mashing them,
the taste is much better than stuff ready made, and a whole lot cheaper as
well.

Cheaper??? Packet purchase price was £1.44 for a 650g packet which is
about 4/5 servings. Cindy made the whole lot in one go.

Microwaving is recommended as the best results, but you can cook on the
hob too.

The potato comes out of the microwave smooth (and lump free), creamy
and really tasty with no hint of any artificial ingredients at all,
which is probably because its made from real potato with milk, butter,
salt and pepper added.

Cindy and the kids loved it too..., in fact Cindy reckons she's going
to say goodbye to peeling, boiling and mashing all together.

Good luck!

It's probably cheaper overall, and it is also consistent. And convenient.
Potatoes go off, and you might waste them or not have them when you want
them.

Although I normally recoil from anything processed, I would be tempted to
keep some on hand. I live alone and the ease of using as little as I want,
and also sometimes not wanting to peel, boil and mash just for me, appeals.

Or, as often happens as I am not a daily potato-eater, forced to use up some
flabby green things taking root in the bottom of my veg rack.

Yes, it would be cheaper as I'd also save 20 mins worth of electricity, and
wouldn't end up making more than I need which always happens with real
potatoes. Mind you, the hamsters enjoy any left over.

(I am going to confess, here, that I normally have a packet of Smash in the
cupboard for when I really REALLY can't be arsed, have run out, or don't
have much electricity left on the meter to cook real spuds).

Smash should not be regarded as mashed potato. Its a thing in itself which
you either like or don't like. Sometimes I like it. Usually I'd prefer real
mash - still haven't sourced AB's though!

For best real mash boil an onion along with the potatos and mash in....

If you'd spend less time scouring the Internet for Eastenders-look-a-like

Would be better for that lame excuse of a brain of yours too.
