Caramel panettone pudding

This is a recipe for using leftover panettone. It is a traditional bread
and butter pudding but with a caramel base. I have made it several times
and it's a keeper.
Of course, one can use any fruit bread or plain bread with the addition
of some dried fruit.

I made my Trifle with a Panettone, it was delicious and soaked up loads of sherry!
